Marc Dann is Ready to Plead Guilty, Won’t Face Jail Time
He is in the courtroom as I post this, and it’s truly a shame that someone who ran the Attorney General’s office in the way he did isn’t facing serious jail time.:
Former Attorney General Marc Dann is expected to plead guilty this morning to two misdemeanor counts of illegally padding the income of two aides and failing to report some of his own income on financial-disclosure forms.
Dann would be the first former attorney general in Ohio history to face criminal charges stemming from his conduct in office.
Dann has maintained that while he failed in his management of the state’s top legal office, he committed no crimes. The scrappy lawyer was poised to fight the charges but decided during a series of negotiations yesterday to reach a plea agreement that might spare him prison time. Prosecutors were prepared to convene a grand jury to consider more-serious charges against him.
Dann, a Democrat who resigned after a scandal in his office two years ago, could face as much as a year in prison and $2,000 in fines. He also would be barred from state office for seven years.
