Matt - I co-founded the OLC and it is am umbrella organization for Tea Parties, 9/12 Projects and the other grassroots movements that have arisen in Ohio in the last 12 months. There are more than 50 member or affiliated groups across the state, so it is not limited to central Ohio. Yes, it does have a distinctly libertarian bent as does most of the tea party movement with the focus on fiscal conservatism and Constitutional government. There is no connection to the John Birch Society.
  • Yeah I used to say there was no JBS connection, then I started go to a few meetings and people would spending way too much time explaining to me why I'm wrong about Robert Welch and why JBS is worth joining. No connection perhaps, but a lot of overlap. I like the OLC and the tea parties, but the group attacks people who embarrass the conservative movement.

The OLC is an umbrella organization and doesn't have meetings of their own. We've done a town hall on 2009's issue 2, and a rally in Columbus on Aug 1. It's possible that you attended a meeting by a member group of the OLC that has Birch connections I suppose, but it certainly isn't something that pervades the OLC groups.

What meetings are you going to?
